This Could Be the Night(1957).
This Could Be the Night(1957). Comedy directed by Robert Wise. The movie is based on the short stories by Cornelia Baird Gross . Cast: Jean Simmons, Julie Wilson and Paul Douglas. Actor Anthony Franciosa made his debut in this film.
The story begins when, straight-laced Anne Leeds, answers a classified ad for a part-time secretarial job during the night shift at the Tonic nightclub, to work for owner with a big heart, who is charmed by her intelligence. She falls in love with his partner Tony Armotti, who is a womanizer.
Anne's first night includes witnessing an fight and decoding a bookie's message about one of Rocco's bets. Tony decides to fire her because he feels she doesn't belong in a nightclub, but his other partner Rocco rehires her. Anne becomes friends with many of the customers. The club staff are a like able bunch of "characters" ... from busboy Hassan, whose father won't let him change his name until he passes algebra, to strip-dancer Patsy, who really wants to be a cook.
Julie Wilson (born October 21, 1924). First working for the musical group, Hank's Hepcats, Wilson headed to New York and found work in two nightclubs, the Latin Quarter (nightclub) and the Copacabana.
She made her Broadway debut in the 1946, Three to Make Ready. In 1951, she moved to London to star in, Kiss Me, Kate and remained there for four years, performing in shows: South Pacific and Bells Are Ringing while studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. She returned to New York to replace Joan Diener in Kismet. Other Broadway credits include: The Pajama Game (1954), Jimmy (1969), Park (1970), and Legs Diamond (1988), for which she received a Tony Award nomination as Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She also toured in, Show Boat, Panama Hattie, Silk Stockings, Follies, Company, and A Little Night Music.
Wilson, landed a regular role on daytime soap opera, The Secret Storm. She also perform in, Kiss Me, Kate and many episodes of, The Ed Sullivan Show.

STAR OF THE MONTH: GRACE KELLY in GREEN FIRE (1955)

GREEN FIRE(1955). A romantic/adventure. Begins with Mining engineer Rian X. Mitchell being attacked by bandits at an abandoned Mine. They shoot him and throw him down the side of a mountain. Rian starts walking in search for help, when he meets, Father Ripero along the way. The priest brings Rian to Catherine Knowland's coffee plantation, where he receives treatment for his wounds. Soon, Father Ripero tells Rian that the piece of stone he has was from Carrero, the lost emerald mine.
Later, Rian returns to his office in Entrada, that he shares with his business partner, Vic Leonard. His very affectionate secretary, tells Rian that Vic, has made travel plans for Canada. Rian goes to the harbor to talk to Vic, about the emerald mine before he leaves. Vic tells him that he is not interested, and he has a more secure job as a foreman of the Manitoba Carbon Company.
Rian, tricks Vic into getting drunk and takes his money, which he gambles with. Vic, is very angry when Rian returns in the morning, but still decides to go back with him to the mine.
Rian is having trouble finding a mining crew, goes to the church to find Father Ripero, who admits he told his followers that it was dangerous idea. In spite of Father Ripero, Rian finds workers by promising a reward for the first man to find an emerald and the excavation begins.
Rian's greed to mine the emeralds at any cost. First he angers the local bandits, who threaten Catherine, but he also hires her brother Donald, with no experience working as a miner. Catherine and Rian, begin have their own problems, when it is time to harvest the coffee and she has few workers left and she finds her fields under threat of flooding from Rian's mining operations. After a tragic accident at the mine, even Vic abandons his friend and helps Catherine with her harvesting.
Will Rian ever come to his senses and realize he has something bigger to lose?
Green Fire is a 1954 film directed by Andrew Marton with original music by Miklos Rozsa and starring Grace Kelly, Stewart Granger, Paul Douglas and John Ericson.
Grace Kelly, is very charming through out the film and a good match with Stewart Granger. Paul Douglas, was wonderful in his supportive role.

CLASH BY NIGHT (1952)

THIS WEEKS SPOTLIGHT : CLASH BY NIGHT (1952)- a Disneyprincess, movie selection. :)
Director Fritz Lang, created a very tense realistic drama about lust and betrayal with CLASH BY NIGHT(1952), Terrific performances by Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Ryan, and an early performance by Marilyn Monroe .
The story is about a very cynical Mae Doyle, returning home after 10 years, to the fishing village in Monterey, where she grew up. Her brother, a fisherman Joe Doyle, takes her into his home. Mae soon starts a relationship with Jerry D'Amato, a decent caring man who owns the boat where Joe works. He introduces her to his obnoxious friend Earl Pfeiffer, who works at theater in town and is married to wife that is cheating on him.. She does not like Earls jokes, but Jerry considers him his friend so she continues to put up with him. Mae accepts Jerry's marriage proposal, and one year later they have a baby girl. When the wife of Earl leaves him, he starts an affair with Mae, who is bored with her marriage. Will Mae realize her mistakes before it is too late?
Marilyn Monroe, had a small part as Joe's girl friend Peggy, who works at the local sardine cannery. She looks up to Mae, and confides to her she wants excitement in her life, and not to be controlled by men.
