What I will be watching this week...

Noir and Chick Flicks, is really looking forward to sharing "What I will be Watching" posts with my fellow bloggers and readers. I have really missed putting them together. I'm also going to make a few fun changes on the side-bar. I'm adding... "Movie News" feature and "Box Sets Reviews" to my regular line up.. Thank you for joining me on my classic movie journey.
Robert Hutton (10 June 1920 - 7 August 1994). During World War II, Hutton, who looked a lot like Jimmy Stewart(who was serving his country) landed roles that would have normally gone to Stewart. And.. TCM is going to start off the week by celebrating Robert Hutton's birthday June 10th. by showing the classic films:

Janie (1944)
Janie Gets Married (1946)
Love And Learn (1947)
And Baby Makes Three (1949)
The Younger Brothers (1949)

These are all "new to me" films, but the one I really want to watch is Love And Learn, because I'm a "big fan" of the actors: Jack Carson, Robert Hutton, Martha Vickers and Janis Paige.

Video: Movie trailer is from the classic film, Love And Learn (1947). Jack Carson is teamed up with Robert Hutton in this classic film about two would-be songwriters. Jack Carson, who sings the songs and Hutton plays the piano.

June 11th. TCM will focus on ...Working Woman Who Surrender In The End. Step back in time, through classic movies to see how women of the 30's and 40's era handled the working world. Dealing with issues such as.. the boys club, having a family or maybe... even the women themselves.

Female(1933)
His Girl Friday(1940)
Woman of the Year(1942)

During his college days, Rudy Vallee was a huge Wiedoft fan and later met his idol and the two Rudys developed a friendship that lasted until Wiedoft died. One of Rudy's saxophones, which once belonged to Wiedoft, was later sold to a Little Rock Attorney as a gift for then-governor of Arkansas Bill Clinton. When Rudy transferred to Yale, he formed a band called the Yale Collegians and made his singing debut at the Heigh Ho Club in New York City, after volunteering to take over the vocals himself because he did not want to loose the engagement. This launched the crooning style that he made famous even before Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. He later starred in the film, "The Vagabond Lover," the first of 33 he would make. On June 15th TCM is spotlighting three of his films:

The Palm Beach Story(1942)
How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying(1967)

  1. Great choices, Dawn. I haven't seen SHOOT THE PIANO PLAYER since college and that was in...well, never mind, it was a while ago. I remember enjoying it and am looking forward to watching this French flick again.

  2. I have never seen the film noir, Shoot The Piano Player, I can not wait to see it this coming Friday.

I watched a few of the Robert Hutton movies yesterday.. It is amazing how much he does look like a young Jimmy Stewart on film.
