Dawn's movie favorites: 21-30.

30. Rear Window.

"Rear Window" is a very entertaining suspense movie with some romance mixed in. There are many characters, some humorous and some moving. A movie you will not soon forget..

29. Cover Girl.

A wonderful story about a girl named Rusty Parker, who dreams of being on Broadway which means she would have to leave the small theater where she works with Danny and Genius. Every Friday night, they go to a local bar where they order oysters so they can look for a pearl. Rusty, learns that fame is not all that it is cracked up to be. The movie showcases the amazing talents of Rita and Gene Kelly.

28. Please Don't Eat The Daisies.

This is one of my favorite Doris Day movies. I feel it captures her best performances as a mother. Doris interaction with the children is hilarious, she's so natural with them. And of course, the musical numbers are fluffy, but that was what we loved about her. Niven makes a wonderful husband for Doris. I also loved Janis Page performance in this film ( she was the top billed female in Doris first film, Romance on the High Seas). Spring Byington is fantastic as the grandmother.

27. Roberta.

Besides the wonderful Ginger and Fred dance numbers, I really enjoyed the costume designs of the 30's.

26. Gentleman Prefer Blondes.

Besides the wonderful dance numbers, wonderful clothes.. I loved the sisterhood between these two characters. I think it would be fun to have a friend like that..

25. Meet Me In St Louis.

I love everything about this movie, the scenery, costumes, actors and story line about learning life lessons. If you were to ask me which is my favorite part of the movie. I would have to say Halloween when, Tootie and her sister Agnes dress up and go out to celebrate Halloween with the neighborhood children. Wanting to prove herself to the other children, Tootie, insists on going up to the feared neighbor Mr. Braukoff door, and blow flour in his face. After Tootie is called the "most horrible," she puts her family into a panic when she returns home, crying, bruised and with a cut lip. Tootie claims that John hit her by the trolley tracks, Esther at first refuses to believe her, but.. changes her mind when she sees a clump of hair in Tootie's hand. Esther storms over to John's house, accuses him of being a bully and beats him up. Tootie and Agnes confess that John actually saved them from being arrested after they almost caused an accident on the trolley tracks. Esther rushes back to John's house to apologize.

24. Bell Book Candle.

It's kinda hard to believe this is the same Kim Novak that performed in Vertigo the same year. Her personality in this film and her very hypnotic good looks, make this a wonderful film...

23. Cheri.

What a beautiful and tragic love story about two people who fall madly into a scandalous love affair. The only thing standing in their way is the big age difference. "Cheri" is a amazing period film taking place in France before World War I .

Michelle Pfeiffer is wonderful as the aging mistress. "Lea". "Cheri" played wonderfully by Rupert Friend. Naturally, what happens to their relationship is heartbreaking. Cheri's, immaturity eventually gets the best of him and it's Lea who realizes what they have is a rare kind of love.

This is long before Cheri does. Lea silently and slowly crumbles before our eyes over their break up, while hanging on to what is left of her dignity. Kathy Bates, is the perfect comedic relief to this deep and dark love story. I loved all the beautiful locations and sets. I absolutely love/love the elegant costumes.

22. On An Island With You.

If you are an Esther Williams fan you will love this movie. It is one of my favorites. Williams and Lawford are wonderful together and so are Ricardo Montalban and Cyd Charisse. Especially during their beautiful dance numbers. If you love happy and romantic musicals you'll love this movie. And don't forget.. we get to see Esther doing what she does best in beautiful water performances.

21. Neptune's Daughter. The mistaken identities and romantic complications turn this film into a great mix of fun. Garrett and Skelton's on screen chemistry was wonderful. I'm surprised that they did not do more films together..

  1. Oh, Dawn, I LOVE "Cover Girl!!" It is my all-time favorite Gene Kelly film...yes, even more than "Singin' in the Rain." Isn't that sequence when he dances with his reflection awesome?!

And, of course, Rita is her usual stunningly beautiful self.

    Fun list of films!!

  2. Dawn, REAR WINDOW is one of my favorite films, too (my wife and I argue over the best Hitchcock film; she favors REAR WINDOW while I opt for VERTIGO...by a hair). It's raken me a few viewings to appreciate the charms of BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE--but I'm a fan now. Have thoroughly enjoyed reading your list!

  3. hi hi hi! Found your cute blog when searching for a Lauren Bacall image for my own. Rear Window is NOT one of my favourites, as I prefer the early Hitchcock, notably Rebecca! Meet me in St. Louis is absolutely gorgeous... I cry when I view it! I even cry when I hear it playing in the background of "A Family Stone!" Here's a list of my top tens... It includes several film noir... My Top Ten Films! Nice to meet you! x
