THIS WEEK on NOIR and CHICK FLICKS.
To save us from drowning in Ginger Rogers feathers this week on TCM, Paul recommends Film Noir: The Big Heat (1953). Director: Fritz Lang. Cast: Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame and Lee Marvin . It is about a cop who takes on the crime syndicate that controls his city after the murder of his wife. The film was written by former crime reporter Sydney Boehm based on a serial by William P. McGivern which appeared in the Saturday Evening Post. A note to Esther Williams fans: Sun. March 14th on TCM. Duchess of Idaho (1950). Musical/ romantic comedy produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Directed by Robert Z. Leonard, it was the fourth film pairing Esther Williams and Van Johnson. It was shot mainly on location in Sun Valley, Idaho. Musical comedy starring Rita Hayworth and Larry Parks, and directed by Alexander Hall. It is a sequel to the 1941 film Here Comes Mr. Jordan, also directed by Hall. Edward Everett Horton and James Gleason reprise their roles from the earlier film, but Roland Culver replaces Claude Rains as Mr. Jordan. Please check local listings for times. So far.. I have really enjoyed this months Ginger Rogers spotlight on TCM. This Weeks Chick Flicks at the Movies Spotlight is: Dancing Pirate (1936). Rita Hayworth performs uncredited as Specialty Dancer. Chance At Heaven(1934). A society girl steals a simple gas station attendant from his working-class girlfriend. Cast: Joel McCrea, Ginger Rogers, Marian Nixon. Dir: William A. Seiter.
