This week on N and CF.


Noir and Chick Flicks at the Movies. Too Late For Tears(1949). Starring Lizabeth Scott (pictured above) and Dan Duryea. The screenplay was written by Roy Huggins, drawn from a serial he wrote for the Saturday Evening Post. Please click picture on side bar to view movie.

ON TCM July 25th: Seven Keys To Baldpate(1935). A writer, looking for some peace and quiet in order to finish a novel, takes a room at the Baldpate Inn. However, peace and quiet are the last things he gets, as there are some very strange goings-on at the establishment.

Happy Birthday : Clara Bow. (July 29, 1905 – September 27, 1965), rose to stardom in the silent film era of the 1920s. Her high spirits and acting artistry made her the quintessential flapper and the film "It" brought her the nickname "The It Girl." Bow came to personify the roaring twenties. She performed in 46 silent films and 11 talkies such as, Mantrap (1926), It (1927) and Wings (1927). Bow ended her career with Hoop-La (1933).

ON TCM July 29: Third Finger, Left Hand(1940). A woman pretends to be married to fend off would-be suitors and jealous wives, then regrets her deception when she meets an artist.

ON TCM July 31st: Dorothy Lamour Tribute. She is best-remembered for appearing in the Road to... movies, a series of successful comedies co-starring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.

ON TCM July 31: Star Of Midnight(1935). A dancer disappears from a theather and then William Powell and society beauty Ginger Rogers solve the murder.

  1. Star of Midnight is already set on my DVR, just waiting for its airing. It's a Ginger film we've never seen, and just as I have to watch every Holden or Coop movie ever made, my husband feels similarly about Ginger.

    I think I will have to check out the Lizbeth Scott/Dan Duryea flick. While I don't much care for her, I do like Dan Duryea. I once read that he was known as "the heel with appeal." I agree with that. There's just something about him that appeals to me. Actually, for some strange reason, I seem to be drawn to "bad boy " actors...Robert Ryan, John Garfield. They (and Duryez) seldom play likeable guys, but I enjoy them nonetheless.

  2. Patti, I also.. can not wait to see the film, Star of Midnight. It is going to be great fun to see Ginger and Powell, perform in a film together.

    I do not know what it is about those "bad boys" that us girls like so much..
