This Week on Noir and Chick Flicks:




ON TCM: Ann Shirley, 10 movie Tribute. Monday, June 28, 2010.. Beginning her career as a child actress under the name Dawn O'Day, Shirley adopted the name of the character she played in Anne of Green Gables in 1934, and achieved a successful career in supporting roles. Among her films is Stella Dallas (1937), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.


ON TCM: Tues. June 29, 2010. Neptune's Daughter (1949). Musical/ romantic/ comedy Cast: Esther Williams, Red Skelton, (Esther Williams, Ricardo Montalbán,pictured above), Betty Garrett, Keenan Wynn, Xavier Cugat and Mel Blanc. Directer: Edward Buzzell. Features the Academy Award winning song Baby, It's Cold Outside by Frank Loesser. Neptune's Daughter was the third movie that paired Williams and Ricardo Montalbán together, the other two being Fiesta (1947) and On an Island with You (1948), and the second to co-star Red Skelton (1944's Bathing Beauty).



ON TCM: Tues. June 29, 2010. Forsaking All Others (1934). Is about Three friends who are involved in a love triangle. The screenplay was written by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, which was based upon a 1933 play by Edward Barry Roberts and Frank Morgan Cavett. Forsaking All Others is the sixth of eight cinematic collaborations between Crawford and Gable.

  1. Thanks for the reminder Dawn. I am so looking forward to Anne Shirley day. Make sure you watch Government Girl..it's the first time ever being on TCM that I know of and it's a great screwball comedy with Anne and Olivia de Havilland.
