This Week on Noir and Chick Flicks:


This Weeks Chick Flicks at the Movies Spotlight is: Scarlet Street(1945). Actors Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, and Dan Duryea, had earlier performed together in The Woman in the Window (1944) also directed by Fritz Lang. The three were re-teamed for Scarlet Street. Friday, April 15th. A Chance at Heaven(1934). A society girl steals a simple gas station attendant from his working-class girlfriend. Cast: Joel McCrea, Ginger Rogers, Marian Nixon. Dir: William A. Seiter.


Friday, April 15th. Top Secret(1984). An Elvis-like singer falls for a French resistance fighter during World War II. Cast: Val Kilmer, Lucy Gutteridge, Christopher Villiers. Dir: Jim Abrahams. Recommended by Paul. Please check local listings for times.

  1. Ann Miller was a star right up until the end! I saw her as Carlotta in the 1998 revival of Stephen Sondheim's Follies at the Paper Mill Playhouse in NJ. She came down the staircase with grace and mesmerized the audience with a singing solo entitled "I'm Still Here." Everytime I play the cast recording I remember that great production that was full of stars that we'll not see the likes of again. [In adddition to Ann Miller, the musical boasted Kaye Ballard, Liliane Montevecci, Phyllis Newman, Tony Roberts]

  2. Dawn , The description of Top Secret is not really what the films about, but it's as good as any. Like I said it's important to "Go in Cold" so as not spoil the fun.
